Recruiting in a rural county

Norfolk employers compete for staff on a smaller field than the national averages imply. Outside Norwich, the local pool for a specialist role may be a few dozen people, public transport between market towns is limited, and a twenty-mile commute is a real reason to turn a job down. Meanwhile the Norwich employers — Aviva, the NNUH, the university — set the salary expectations that everyone else is measured against.

That changes what good recruitment looks like. Advertising harder rarely fixes it. Being clearer about the role, honest about the commute, and faster through the process usually does.

How we work on a vacancy

We start with the role rather than the advert: what the job actually needs, what it genuinely pays, and whether the shape of it is the reason the last two people left. Then advertising and sourcing, sifting and shortlisting, structured interviews, and the offer.

We are not an agency placing a candidate and moving on. The point is that the person is still there in a year, so onboarding and the first few months are part of it.

Common questions

Are you a recruitment agency?
No. We are HR consultants who run recruitment for clients — we work on your process and your vacancy rather than placing candidates for a fee.
Can you help with seasonal hiring?
Yes — including the right to work checks and contracts that seasonal hiring needs to get right.
What if the problem is retention, not recruitment?
Then we will say so. Refilling the same role three times is a retention problem wearing a recruitment costume.
